It’s December and we are about to embark on another journey toward a Valentines Residences Resort and Marina and Harbour Island festive and high season. Valentines managers and team members have been working “assiduously” (one of our PM’s favorite words) getting ready to provide our guests (YOU) with our world famous Five Star Rock Star Service; a little bit of hyperbole but I am sure the Queen would agree that, “WE WILL, WE WILL, ROCK YOU!”
So what have we done so far? Well……..lots of strategic marketing of the resort, tons of beautiful landscaping, a new chef hailing from Austria, a new and exciting menu, a new upscale gym, a stylishly revamped coffee shop with a fabulous deck and harbour view, lots of electrical work on the dock, and a great deal of training of our Five Star Service Team Members. We have also added 10% or so to our staffing level to ensure YOU are being served as you should be. By the way, Valentines has just experienced a run of 15 Five Star online reviews in a row! And, not the first time.
Now for the accolades; in the past two months in addition to many previous awards, Valentines has been recognized by Conde’ Nast Travelers – Readers’ Choice Awards 2016, as a top 20 hotel in the Bermuda, Turks & Caicos, and Bahamas region; we have also been nominated as the Best Boutique hotel in the Caribbean by Caribbean Journal magazine. Winning is fun!
Notables; on December 1st, I was reelected to a fourth term as President of the Bahama Out Islands Promotion Board, and on December 2nd, I was elected Senior Vice President of the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association. Valentine’s is proud to announce that Tyrone Anderson, Director of Finance for Valentine’s Resort and Marina has been selected as a Semi-Finalist in the 17th Annual Cacique Awards in the Manager of the Year category.
Tyrone is considered one of the finest managers among thousands of tourism industry professionals due to his dedication, standard of service and professionalism. In the Caribbean, Cacique is the Lucayan leader of the community who would administer justice, resolve disputes, issue decrees and receive visitors resembling the duties of today’s workplace managers.
The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) and its partners will recognize his achievements at the Annual General Meeting and Luncheon scheduled for Friday, December 2nd at Atlantis Paradise Resort.
The full selection process involves an interview with a selection committee will take place in February 2017 with the winner being announced at the Cacique Awards scheduled to take place in 2017, presented by the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the BHTA.

Valentine’s has been the recipient of several travel industry awards this year and past years and is proud to have added the 2016 Condé Nast Readers Choice “Top 20” listing. Since this particular award is based solely on the votes and input of the travelers, it means so much to us that our guests have taken the time to give us this prestigious placement.
Here’s a little about the Reader’s Choice Awards…
More than 300,000 travelers took part in the 2016 (29th annual) Readers’ Choice Awards survey, which set a new record for Condé Nast with reader’s submitting millions of ratings and over 75,000 comments to help us create a list of winning favorites. Most notably for Condé Nast, travelers declared a passion for the authentic, the personalized, the unexpected as their reasons for giving resorts and locations high ratings.
Twenty-nine years ago, when Condé Nast asked it’s readers to participate in our first ever travel survey, and travelers did so by filling out a short, paper ballot form—with pen and pencil. Times have changed. They fully switched to online voting in 2005 and this year took the bold step of building the survey themselves offering more specific questions as well as permitting the voter to submit their descriptions for more detailed review. More than 300,000 of you made your voices heard via desktop, laptop, tablet, and Smartphone.
Watching reader reactions on an hourly basis between April 1 and July 1, 2016 and subsequently pouring over the accumulated data about hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise lines, airlines, and more was fascinating and informative for Condé Nast. Past guests shared more information than ever before and detailed where the travelers had been, what they did, what they liked and disliked, and where they want to go next.
Now we all are aware of scams and spam, even more aware of the chance the awards could be based on bulk input by agencies giving Condé Nast a false impression and placing undeserving resorts on the list. To insure fair and accurate placement all incoming votes are tracked by the ISP address of the person submitting, multiple surveys coming from the same ISP are eliminated since they are deemed ballot-stuffing contributions. This insures only the true traveler and past guest are inputs are considered giving validity to the awards process.
